Autoclave Sterilizers

The When And The Why
This piece of equipment is not only all around us it has been for quite some time. Usually applied in a medical environment the autoclave sterilizer was perfected for manufacture in the late 1870′s. A simpler rendition was developed as far back as the second half of the 1600′s.
Starting out with an external source of applying heat to a water source the initial autoclaves were basically of an easy to handle, “pressure cooker” size. This type is still in use today. With the advent of electricity and electronics though there are some models that are the size of a small room.
Once it was discovered that the application of heat killed harmful organisms in a medical setting the autoclave found its reason for being. The use of steam to sterilize instruments was an easy, affordable and practical method to insure the reduction of contamination in surgery.
Steam is applied under pressure in a vacuum sealed chamber. Depending on the requirements of the situation, both temperature and duration are controlled to optimally effect sterilization. With time the uses of autoclaving have expanded. One common and modern use is a small table top unit used in tattoo shops. The needles and tattoo guns must be sterilized to prevent infection or the spread of any blood borne diseases. In most tattoo parlors each artist has his own sterilizer at his station.
Autoclave Types
There are many methods used to sterilize items. Chemical, gas, dry heat and cold sterilization to name a few. The use of pressurized steam system though is easy to achieve, transport and make viable.
Counter top units built with a series of valves and gauges insure that air is released and the steams temperature can be maximized. Any medical facility using steel instruments in its practice will have a small to medium sized unit. Doctors, veterinarians, dentists and outpatient surgery centers all utilize an autoclave. Bigger units are being used by hospitals to sterilize medical waste.
This eliminates the use of incinerators which is a major deciding factor in today’s era of environmental health as well as individual health.
Autoclave Usage
This device is widely used in tattooing, body piercing, medicine, microbiology, etc.
Usually it sterilizes needle, utensils, glassware, and waste. It will sterilize the waste such as pathogenical waste. Using high pressure steam and superheated water, bacteria and viruses will die.
The new generation of autoclave can sterilize rubber, dress, and other pressure sensitive media without high pressure and heated water.
New Autoclave or Used Autoclave
Buy the new one! Never buy used autoclave. There is a lifetime for this equipment. We can’t rely on the used one, the seal may broken, and it may gives under standard result quality. You should buy brand new autoclave for your own and others health.
